I am so excited--I'm new at this & thought I'd check out the Purviance family. I am a descedent of Alexander Jasper Purviance, son of Alex C. Purviance & Jane Coleman Purviance. Alex married Susan Mariah Jones (I have their picture hanging in my home--she was supposedly a friend of Abraham Lincoln's mother). Their fifth child, Effie Jane was my great grandmother, her son, Joseph Jasper Fotlz, my grandfather. Our branch of the Purviances still has reunions each summer, although I have not attended in many years. I have info on the children of Alexander Jasper Purviance & Susan Mariah Jones Purviance (I'm not sure if my form is correct):

Alexander Jasper Purviance (b. Aug. 3, 1840 near Springfield, IL) m. Susan Mariah Jones Purviance (daughter of Samuel & Pheoba Jones), b. Sept. 2, 1837, at Circleville, OH.

Their children:
1. Nellie Almeda Purviance (Pinon) b. April 9, 1863 near Lincoln, IL
2. Georgia Gertrude Purviance (Chance) b. April 8, 1865 near Lincoln, IL.
3. Louis Green Purviance g. Oct. 3, 1866, near Lincoln, IL.
4. Itha Mariah Puviance (Pickering) b. October 30, 1867 near Lincoln, IL.
5. Effie Jane Purviance (Foltz) b. Sept. 6, 1869 near Lincoln, IL
6. William Tell Purviance b. Sept. 6, 1869 near Lincoln, IL.
7. Samuel Hill Purviance, b. Dec. 15, 1872 near Hoopston, ILL.
8. Thomas Purviance, b. April 8, 1874 near Hoopston, IL
9. Mark Dale Purviance b. August 1, 1875 near Hoopston, Ill
10. Xelpho Xanthus Purviance b. March 1, 1877 near Hoopston, ILL
11. Kate Pedrick Purviance (Bartmess) born December 28, 1878 near Hoopston, ILL
12. Ralph Early Purviance, b. Jan. 13, 1882 near Howard, KS.

Thomas Purviance died in infancy. Tell Purviance died at age 25 (he was helping cut down a tree and in some kind of accident the tree fell on him & he died several days later. From my records, it shows the family moved to Kansas (near Howard) in 1879. Later they moved to the Indian Territory of what is now Oklahoma.

Hope to hear from you & that you forgive my lack of formal/correct presentation of geneology. I'm just so excited to find a match!!
