Carol, I am a direct descendant of Lt. Francis Ross, b. about 1735, and Esther Carothers, b. about1743. Esther was the daughter of Hugh Carothers, sometimes spelled Curruthers, and Sarah Purviance. Esther's grandfather was Moses Shelby, and the Shelby's married into the Knox, Alexander, and Polk families. I believe we belong to the same line. My Purviances lived in Mecklenburg County, N.C. Do you have any information about a Sarah Purviance, who married a Hugh Carothers? Any information sent would be appreciated. Tom Ross
