Marsha Cope Huie wrote that “John Purviance, who was scalped by "Indians" in Middle Tennessee, causing the Purviance family to move up to Bourbon County, Kentucky, at least for awhile.”

"After the violent death of John Purviance in Middle Tennessee, his widow married William McCorkle."

John, the son of John Purviance and Mary Jane Wasson; married Martha King December 26, 1791, and died May 7, 1792 and is buried in “A small graveyard 2 miles east of Gallatin, Tennessee”. Does this sound like the same family? Could your dates for Jane be off by one year?
