9/9/2008 Hi, Scarlett. I'm a LeRoy, descended from Purvance. (Clara Maude Purvance who married Ulysses Grant LeRoy.And it IS Grant, not George, middle name.) The problem is the handwriting by the census takers, so we have Purveyance, Purvians, Provance, Purviance, Provians, Pervines, Purvines, Provines. My particular headache at this moment is Sarah Rachel Wall Pervines/Purvance (she married Joseph Pervines who turns out to be Joseph Calloway Purvance)So don't despair.Stuart Purvines wrote a book about the Purviance History and it is almost 1400 pages, I'm told.(LDS Library in Salt Lake City??) History? Here goes: Jon de PurVaiance to Jacques de Purvaiance to Jacques Purviance and Lewis Purvines, thence to John Purviance and Samuel Purveyance. And finally, Purvance.
