Apparently this cemetery was planned for the family of EVAN PURVIANCE, b. 5 January 1798, died 13 Jan 1849 who is buried there. Evan was the son of JAMES PURVIANCE and his third wife, DEBORAH SHERRILL. Evan's wife, JANE FOSTER PURVIANCE, purchased the acre of land on which the cemetery is located in the SW1/4-SE1/4 of Section 9 for $5.00 in 1855, but the deed was not recorded until 1872. (Tazewell Co., IL Deedbook vol. 65, p. 557).Jane Foster Purviance died 4 Apr 1886. This cemetery is a candidate for complete restoration since it has been overgrown with trees, etc. Many stones are reported to be down and buried in the undergrowth.
