I have your Ester(that is spelling I have) married to a Mr. Ross. My info stops there, but I can go back. Esther/Ester was the daughter of Sarah Purviance & Hugh Carruthers(spelling I have). Came to this country c.1740, 1st record lists Hugh in Augusta Co. Militia in 1742. In 1759 Hugh takes a grant for 277 acres in Mecklenberg Co,NC on Rocky Rv. where he lived till death in 1782. His will identifies his children as John, Robert, Ester, Sarah-born 1761-died 1781 was married to James Purviance, 2nd cousins-no descendants),she is buried in Rocky Rv Cemetery, her husband was the son of David & Margaretha Purviance. Last to children of Hugh were a Hugh & James.Sarah Carruther's brothers were: DAVID,b.castle Finn, Ireland,c1708,died 1743 in PA. He had 4 kids-David, Charles, James & Mary.SAMEUL,wife Lettice Dinsmore, as least 5 kids(I only have 5th son Robert & Samuel).
John,b Castle Finn, Ireland, married a Margaret(I only have info on a daughter, Mary McKnight Purviance).JAMES,I only have his son, Samuel, a private in the Revolution in 1780-82.He died in PA, 1829. Thier father was John Purviance-no info but died in Ireland, I do have info on his brother Samuel Purveyance.Their father was Jacques Purviance, who fled France in 10-1685. He next appeared in Lisburn, Ireland. He settled in Castle Finn, Co Donegal where he had cousins, decendants of John Purveyance, who had come there in 1613. John stayed with his father but Lewis came to US. He settled in VA-clerks of the court (Parish of Linhaven, Princess Anne Co) spell the name as Purvine. Jacques' father was Jacques de PurVaince, and his father was Jon de PurVaiance, who died in Royan, France, c1630.
