This is a fancastic link! Thank you so much.

My interest in Hezekiah Puryear stems from the marriage record of my 4-great grandmother, Martha Carter to William Wood 21 Dec 1793 in Goochland Co VA. Surety for the marriage was Stephen Ellis and the witnesses were Hezekiah Puryear and Daniel Ellis. Parents of Martha were Robert Carter and an unknown Susannah. I suspect, and have been trying to prove, that Susannah was an Ellis, sister to Mary and Ann that married Hezekiah. I believe Stephen Ellis was their brother, and Daniel Ellis was Stephen's son. That would have made Daniel Ellis a nephew of Hezekiah's and Stephen his brother-in-law. Or...if it was Hezekiah Jr. that was the witness, then he would have been nephew to Stephen and cousin to Daniel. At any rate, Stephen Ellis was most likely Martha's uncle, as was Hezekiah, Sr. Daniel Ellis and Hezekiah, Jr. would have been her first cousins.

Do you have any further or additional information on the Ellis family; or, do you have any idea what Hezekiah's occupation may have been? It seems logical to me that these were relatives, but perhaps he was rather a court clerk or something of the kind. Thanks!
