You Puryears have done such a thorough job of researching the Puryear line, maybe you can help me with the Pitt line. William Puryear (b. abt 1813 in VA) married a Mary Pitt in 1838 in TN. They had 4 sons in TN (James Monroe, William Edmond, John, and Thomas Jefferson) and moved to TX about 1850 where a 5th (Walter Randall) was born. Somehow, all of these boys except James Monroe, the oldest, are listed in the 1860 census of Travis Co., TX as living in the household of John Pitt, 42, and Mary (Sloan) Pitt, 20, and John Pitt, 1. Also in the household are Edmond or Edmund Pitt, 72 and Dorothy Pitt, 64. I believe John Pitt and Mary (Pitt) Puryear to be brother and sister and would appreciate your help in finding out what happened to William and Mary Puryear between 1850 and 1860 that their children would be raised by their uncle (and probably grandparents Edmond and Dorothy). I'm also interested in Edmond and Dorothy Pitt, so any info you may have on them would be appreciated also.
