Skip, Grace Hollis Puryear has many errors in her book. Almost everyone takes it for truth. She has many assumptions, especially in William Puryears ancestors. Never take anyone elses work as truth, just use it as a research tool. My great grandfather James Granderson Puryear b 1838 Randolph Co AR, was known to be kin to your William Puryear's family. My mother was a Puryear and she grew up with the knowledge that both lines were cousins, but no one could remember how. I've been working trying to find the link. I do know that James Monroe Puryear married James Granderson's brother in law's sister in Randolph Co AR. So, they knew each other there in AR. How did James Monroe know that James granderson was living in Randolph Co, AR? I've wondered if William Puryear and the father of James Granderson were brothers or first cousins. I think that James Granderson's father lived in TN before moving to AR. One of the daughters was living in TN during the probate of her father's estate and one of her brothers' probate. I haven't found out where she was living or with whom. She never married. My great grandfather lived next door to Walter Ran Puryear in Hays Co TX. I would love to find the link.
