I would like to know where it is found that Mary Ann Miller's husband's first name was William? I have not seen any documentation through census records showing him as William. Their marriage record at Ancestry lists him as Seymore Puryar (sic). I know he must have gone by Seymour, but I have the death certificate of Etta Modena Puryear Lynch Miller that shows her parents as Henry Seymour Puryear and Mary Ann Miller. The informant for the death certificate was Modena's daughter Dorris Miller (Mrs H C Bownds). So, my records are showing his name as Henry Seymour Puryear.

about Seymore Puryear

Age in 1860: 33
Birth Year: abt 1827
Birthplace: Georgia

Seymore Puryear 6.12

Alena Puryear 3

I have not located Seymour/Seymore and Mary Ann on later census records. Modena and Lorena were both born in GA, 1864 and 1866, respectively. I know of no children born after Lorena, therefore; I believe both Seymore and Mary Ann died before the 1870 census.

Additionally - Seymore, the 6 month old child listed above in the 1860 Census, was probably Seymore H (possibly Henry). I have a death certificate, not sure it is the same Seymour/Seymore, but the date of birth is listed as 17 Jan 1860. The only problem with this Death Certificate is that his parents names are unknown by the informant and the informant states that he was born in Macon, GA. Considering the informant did not have knowledge of the deceased parents' names, I don't hold much confidence that the place of birth is accurate. This Seymore H Puryear was buried at Hillcrest Cemeter in Wichita Falls, TX. He died 11 July 1842, Aged: 82yrs, 5mos, 24days.

I am new to this Miller & Puryear family research as it connects to my 3rd Great Aunt, Hannah Mercer, and my 3rd Great Uncle, Robert Montgomery Mercer. Their sister, Nancy Mercer, my 3rd Great Grandmother, married William Lawson Locklin.....just so you know how I connect to this line.

Any information you can assist with will be greatly appreciated. I will share what I have so far, though I don't feel it is a lot at this point.

Kind Regards,
Formerly of Milam Co., TX
