Charles, I cannot help you with John Putney's ancestry, but suspect you are on the right track. I believe John and Mary (Carpenter) Putney had a son:

William B. Putney b. 1DEC1814, d. 26DEC1877, bur. Amawalk Cem., Westchester Co., NY

William m.:

Mary L. Flewwellin b. 1AUG1815, d. Newark, New Jersey 8:00 pm 29AUG1903, aet. 88 years, 29 days, of acute colitis, bur. Amawalk Cem., Westchester Co., NY

It is the Flewwellin's I am interested in, and I am trying to confirm William's parents.
