My interst is in Nathaniel Putney Bd 1809 NY. He is married to Polly Scott Bd 1815 Vt. I have found them in the 1850 census living together with children, in the Livingston County, New York. Nathaniel next may be living with Hiram's family in Wyoming County, New York in 1860. It appears that Nathaniel is living with Hiram's family in 1870 in Winebago County, Illinois. The ages and family members are consistent. After that the path grows cold. I find his wife, The 1880 census lists Polly living with her sons in Gillmanton, Buffalow, Wisconsin. The ages are consistet with the 1850 census mentioned earlier. I have later found strong evidence that Polly claimed land during the Homestead Act. I am decendant of their daughter Elmira Severece who married William H Thorpe. They want on to buy land in South Dakota and raise a family. This followed William Thorp's service in the Civil War. It would appear that Nathaniel was not connected with the family Sometime after 1850. Polly and the children appeared in Wisconsin in 1880. There is imformation that might lead to the possibility that there are were two Nathaniel Putneys. One having been born later than 1809. I have been searching for a link with the earlier family of Nathaniel Putney or Polly Scott. I am planning to begin sending a letters to county registrars in New York State seeking information regarding the family. I will start with Leicester County and span out from there.
