Oliver Putt b 18 Jan 1842, d 28 Oct 1917
According to my great-grandfather, Oliver Putt's, obituary, he was born in Stark co., Ohio 18 Jan 1842.He "answered the country's call for Volunteers" in 1861 and served throughout the war.(Someone provided me with a Civil War historical narrative that confirms his service in an Indiana regiment under the name "Oliver Hubler".This name and his "true" name, Oliver Putt, are both confirmed by his Civil War Pension record.)He married Sarah Humbert of Summett County Ohio on 26 July 1872 and they soon moved to Big Rapids Michigan. In 1874 they moved to a farm in Kent County, Michigan and remained there for the rest of his life.He died 28 Oct 1917.His obituary lists eight children:John and George (my grandfather), both of Grand Rapids, MI; Charles and Oliver of Arizona, Ella McDonald of Grand Rapids; Etta Easterday of Ionia; William, who died 19 Nov 1912 and Howard who died in infancy.I am trying to find his parents and have been unable to find anything at all.Is it possible he was born Hubler and changed his name? There is a rumor in the family that he may have been adopted, but by whom? The Hublers or the Putts?I would also love to find other descendants and maybe learn more about him and Sarah. If anyone wants a copy of the obituary, I would be happy to share it.
Carol
