Hello Bob,

I have some information on PEI Pyes.

The names are so close to the names I see listed in some of the queries on this site. I am sure they must fit in somewhere.

I would like to attach a newspaper clipping regarding 3 drownings. This from the New York Times.

October 28, 1887, Wednesday

Page 1, 46 words

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia, Oct. 27.--Private advices received here state that a fishing boat owned by Freeman Pye sank off White Islands yesterday, and that the three men on board were lost. The men were Freeman Pye, Henry Fleet, and August Barnard.

I have a Freeman Pye in the PEI index. I know that he did not drown- so the above man is not him. But, how many Freeman Pyes would have been around the maritimes? That name is not so common - it would be more like a family continuing such a name. Don't you think?

I believe the Freeman I have was actually a Francis Thomas or Thomas Francis and ended up being Freeman. He- may have been the son of a Francis Pye here on PEI. I have not verified that though.

Would gladly share what I have found on the Pye families from the Island. Only the Northumberland Strait to separate them...not too much for sea faring people.
