David Pylant, 59, of Grants Pass died Monday, June 9, 2008, at his home.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11:30 July 12 at the Centennial Gazebo in Riverside Park. Stephens Family Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Nov. 18, 1948, in Midland, Texas, to Laura and Thurman Pylant. He graduated from Lee High School in Midland and attended West Texas State University and Chenard Art School in Los Angeles.

He married Amanda Ewing, who survives. They moved to the Grants Pass area in 1974. In 1978, he followed his father's trade and started a sign and silkscreen business. He moved his business from Wonder to Grants Pass in 1999. During the final years of his business, he became known as the "Tulip Man," as he painted more than 10,000 tulips on Dutch Bros. stands.

He was a musician and he used his music in many ministries over the years. He led the worship team at Jerome Prairie Bible Church and made several work trips to the Navajo mission in Arizona through his church. He especially enjoyed the Park Ministry, which he operated for 15 years. He organized and attended the feeding of the homeless at Riverside Park on the weekends.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Stephen Pylant of Grants Pass, and Lucas Pylant of Ashland; three brothers, Thurman Pylant of Priddy, Texas, Joe Pylant of Kirkland, Wash., and Jonathan Pylant of Carroll, Texas; and two grandchildren
