Hi Katy,
I am happy to hear from you. Unfortunately, I cannot answer your query re the origin of the Pyne name but I thought I saw a very lengthy message in the genforum a while back describing Pyne/Pine/Payne origins and connections. I usually print such messages when it pertains to names I am researching but for some reason I neglected to print this one. My impression, from what I had read, is that the name is an Irish one.
I too, am related by marriage. My husband is the grandson of Joseph Patrick Phelan, brother of Julia Marie Phelan Toohill. I have little information on the ancestors of Joseph Patrick and I am eternally grateful for that which you have provided. If you would like info on his descendants, I will be happy to share what I have.
If I can help in any other way, I will certainly do so.
Sincerely,
Roberta Phelan
