Percy and Albertina Pyne/Mary Pyne Cutting (Mrs. C. Suydam Cutting), NY & NJ

I am a staff historian for the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission researching Alderbrook, a large country house in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. The house was built c.1862 as the summer estate of Percy Rivington Pyne and his wife, Albertina Taylor Pyne. I have found, in a 1976 book on Moses Taylor (Albertina’s father), a reference to Albertina’s diary, which was then in the possession of Mrs. C. Suydam Cutting, nee Mary Percy Pyne.

I was hoping to be able to track down this diary, but Mary Pyne Cutting died in 1983, and I have not found any record of descendants who she might have given the diary to. She was a longtime resident of Bernardsville, New Jersey. I believe that she was the daughter of Percy R. Pyne Jr., Percy and Albertina’s son, who constructed the Pynes’ Bernardsville estate, known as Upton Pyne, in the late 1800s. If anyone has any information about where this diary might be, or about any close relatives who could possibly have inherited the diary from Mary Cutting, I would greatly appreciate your help.
