Hello, Heather, thanks for your reply. I have given up on William a few times now,but always have 'just one more try '.
I,also, have him born at New Deer as William Hastings, but haven't been able to find his parents. On his death cert. it states his first wife was ? Whyte. In 1813, a William Hastings married a Mary Whyte at New Deer.Next thing, he's at Whitefaulds,Marykirk, called William Pyper and married to Mary Caird.I notice there were Pypers in Marykirk before so maybe it was an inheritance thing, somebody with no son to inherit so a sister's son inherited but had to change names ?? I got a copy of his will hoping it might mention parents names but it doesn't.You are very welcome to a copy if you would like it.I have nothing on Joseph Hastings and Jannet Pyper, it sounds a good match.
I have a George Pyper and Mary Ogston in New Deer in the 1750's and they had children, Jannet ,George, William. Also a George Pyper in Marykirk c.1791. I wonder if they're all from the same Pyper.
Anyway, please let me know if I can send you anything, mail my e-mail address. William and Mary Pyper were my grandparents.
Regards, Elizabeth
I found a George Pyper and Mary Ogston
