As you know, the will is confusing. I believe John Pyron, born c.1735, was married to Mary Cates and that they had two sons (and daughters Ann and Margery): John, born c.1762, and Joshua, born c.1770. I infer the old man's son, John Cate(s), had died when the will was written. Further confusion: Land deeds to John Pyron and John Griffen dated 1771 and 1778 are "signed" John Cates, Sr., while the will is made by John Cates, Jr. But both are "signed" with the same unusual mark. I corresponded some years ago with a descendant of Joshua Pyron and may have some further information.
