Hi, my suspected link to the QUA(W) family comes from a great-aunt's entry on my Great-Grandfather McMillin's death certificate. She had enter his grandparents names as Andrew McMillin and Margaret Quaw. From my research his grandparents were Andrew McMillan Jr and Margaret Adams. But; Andrew's father was also Andrew McMillan Sr and wife Anna Unknown.
I found last year that Andrew Sr had an earlier wife, whom I strongly believe was a Jane (unknown). Jane is buried next to him in W. Hebron NY and died much eariler and Andrew's oldest daughter is named Jane. I strongly suspected my great-aunt got her generations mixed up. I at first thought what an odd name that maybe she had gotten it mixed up or this might be a name of native-American origin. I found at the DAR library that the QUA family was in their Washington County, NY was of Irish origin. I strongly suspicion that my Gr Gr Gr ..grandmother was possibly a Jane QUA or his second wife (not my ancestor) was possibly an Anna Qua. Anna was from Saratoga though.
I have information on a John QUA who came from Ireland in 1774 and settled in Hebron, Washington, NY. He had 4 children Robert b.1750, David, Andrew and Martha. Another article I have on David Qua (b.1826), states that his grandfather John Qua came to America with his two brothers, but does not mention them. It says they came in 1764. It also says that David's father David was born in 1798.
Not sure what's accurate.
What I discovered yesterday was this old NY newspaper article that gives me a clue that Jane or Anna Qua’s relative was a Charles Qua of White Creek, NY. I found in the Washington Co., NY Will file a reference to a John C. Qua in White Creek. I suspect the C. could stand for Charles. Does anyone have information on the QUAa’s of White Creek, NY? My McMillan family lived in West Hebron, NY and I know a John QUA lived there as well, but believe this to be a different branch (possibly cousin, etc).
