Qualls Family Genealogy Forum

As some of you know who've read my previous postings, I've been on a search to verify my family's verbal history that our ancestors came in at Jamestown in 1609. I'd met with roadblocks from a Jamestown historical society that said there was no record of a Quarles in the colony. However, I had census records showing there was a John Quarles in Virginia Colony. Well, I found another verification of that census record. The Second Virginia Charter of May 23, 1609 has a list of the colonist, and about a third of the way down the list is a John Quales (Quarles). I found this information at http://odur.let.rug.nl/~usa/D/1601-1650/virginia/chart02.htm. However, other websites that allow for viewing of the complete charter should have the same information. I've already passed the information along to my sisters and other relatives for their records, and may recontact that historical society and have them recheck their records. BTW, I found in my searching of the Virginia library's on-line records that a John Quarles Jr. was a pre Revolutionary government official of King William County, and that several wills (including a Jane Stanhope-Quarles) are listed with him being an official involved in their writing. Do a Virginia Colony search with your search engine and then do a Quarles search when you pick a site (if it allows searches, which the library site does). You may be surprised at what you will find. Happy hunting!
