The earliest George Quarles I have in my records is George Quarles of Ufford, Northants. 9 Nov 1509 George was appointed auditor of Henry VIII (1) and again 6 Sept 1511. 22 May 1515 he was appointed as one of the Commissioners of the Sewers in Northants. 1523 One of the Northamptonshire Commissioners appointed to collect the King's subsidy. 30 December 1527 a session was held in Marholm in the Hundred of Nassaburgh before William FitzWilliam, John Turnor and George Quarles, the king's commissioners for the view of corn. 30 January 1535 George was appointed one of the three auditors for the Commission For First Fruits and Tenths, in Northamptonshire. It is possible (assuming the memorial is accurate) that George Quarles mentioned as being born in 1529 was his younger son but he is not mentioned in George Quarles of Ufford's will. George Quarles was married to Margaret Browne, da. of Sir Robert Browne of Walcot, Northants.and Isabel Sharpe da. of Christopher Sharpe esq., Duchy of Lancaster Receiver for Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire 26 Nov 1460-1496, escheater for Yorks 5 Nov 1468 (Cal.Fine Rolls) until 16 Mar 1472 (Cal.Pat.). George Quarles of Ufford, co Northampton, Esquyer to be buried in the Church of Ufford before the image of the Holy Trinity, my exor to buy an honest gravestone to be laid upon my grave and shall cause a sculpture of the ymages of me and Margaret my wife to be graven in a place upon the said gravestone with an Epithaphye for the remembrance of our souls. Northampton and West Deping co. Linc shall be seised to use of said Francis my son and his heirs. Said Francis to give to my said daughter L20 besides the L23.6.8 above Son Francis exor Robert Wyngfielde, John Plomestead & Henry Lacy overseers.
