I personally think that Martha and Patsy are the same person. If you notice in the census records, you never find them both at one time in the same household.

My theory is that Martha was helping the Barber family for pay or food to help support the family. Elizabeth could not read or write and when the census taker came around, Elizabeth probably was the only one at home and told him that 2 of her children lived with her, Isham and Patsy. The census taker then moved on down the road and Martha was at the Barber household and also enumerated there. Patsy is a quite common nickname for Martha.

I would be interested in any information that you might have on Patsy. She supposedly married an Etheridge or Eldridge.
