Paul,
According to one of my cousins (as well as some information I came across), Roger is apparently the brother of the William Quarles that fathered the William that came to middle Tennessee and started the family line I'm decended from. I found some will information on a Francis Quarles, wife of a William Quarles prior to 1820, that named Roger as a brother to the older William. From that will I surmise that Roger was the uncle to the William that came to Tennessee, though I'm not 100% positive on that. They lived in Spotsylvania County, VA, and was willed some land in Bedford County, VA.
I'm limited for time right now, but later I'll go back and check the information I wrote concerning that will. I'll keep you posted.
