Thank you Diane. Here is the reference I was given to the Will of James Quarles. I figure that the original (certified copy) is lodged in some lawsuit file somewhere or in some special collection at some library. On July 20, 1771 James Quarles “The Elder” of the Parish of St. Johns wrote his Will, an abstract of which follows (Reference: Virginia Genealogical Society Quarterly, Vol. 16, as per Bob Quarles): "IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN. I James Quarles the Elder, of the Parish of St John in the County of King William, being of sound mind and perfect memory, do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made. FIRST, I desire that all my just debts and funeral expense be paid and satisfied. I give and devise to my Executors hereafter named and to the survivor of them, and their heirs forever, my tract of land lying in.... ...of this my last will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twentieth day of July one thousand seven hundred and seventy one. JAMES QUARLES (seal) Signed sealed and published in the presence of Thomas Rose, Margaret Puryear John Pryor, John Madison" I don't have the information that goes with the "...". I am looking for a complete transcript of the Will and preferable a copy of the Will itself. First I need to locate it. I am still searching for the abstract of the Will directly from the Virginia Genealogical Society Quarterly, Vol. 16. Regarding the references you provided, I take it the the first references is in the Virginia Genealogist. It this Vol. 24 published in October 1971? As to the second reference what does the reference "VGR" stand for? Is this in Vol. 18, published in November 1974? Do you have copies of these pages from the sources your site that you could scan and attached to an e-mail to me? As to each reference, do you know where the actual record of each reference was taken from? My e-mail address is boballen1948@sbcglobal.net Notify Administrator about this message?
