Samantha,
I honestly have NO idea! I'm a descendant of James W. Qualls, born about 1811 (probably in NC), died 1872 in Limestone Co, AL. He enlisted in the Mexican War in NC (1847-48) and is then found in the 1850 Census of Cherokee Co, NC, in the 1860 of Polk Co, TN, and the 1870 of Limestone Co, AL. He materializes in Cherokee Co in 1847. I have no idea where he came from, who his parents were, zilch. So, I've been digging through all the east Tennessee/North Carolina Qualls/Quarles records for any morsel of a clue on his lineage.
