I have several James Quarles in my tree, many without a middle name listed. Do you know his birth year or what year he died? If he served in the Civil War I would imagine that he was born between 1820 and 1845 or so. I don’t have any James Quarles that fall in that time frame, but others probably do. I did find this on the ancestry Quarles Message board:

“Looking for information on my husbands Grandfather, James L. Quarles, Jr., born to James L. Quarles, Sr and Julia Alexandria Beler. He was born in 1905, Sunflower (Co?) Mississippi. I have no other information than this that was gathered from SS-5. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanx.”

I just searched for “james lafayette quarles” on www.google.com and found that. It looks like it was posted by a Melonie Wilson. Send me an email and I can give you some other places to look,

Craig
