John Quarles, Sr., King William Co., VA (18th Century)

  of 1056

The following is my abstract of a quoted document in "Old New Kent County Some Account of the Planters, Plantations, and Places in New Kent County", by Malcolm H. Harris, M.D., (1977), at page 694

On April 20, 1774, John Quarles, the elder, of St. John's Parish, King William County deeded to John Quarles, Jun., of the same County . . . "in order to secure John Quarles, jun. the elder John Quarles assigns forever the land in St. John's Parish, 'Whereon the courthouse of the said County now stands containing about 255 acres, also, all the land the sd John Quarles, Sr., brought of John Madison, 256 acres adjoining the above and which was by a certain deed 29 Oct. 1773 conveyed to certain parties in trust for specific purposes &c. Also conveyed another tract of land which John Quarles the elder purchased of John Austin, Sr., containing ___ acres and adjoining the lands of James Quarles, Sr., deceased, Elizabeth Macon and others. Also conveyed the land whereon John Quarles the elder now lives adjoining the above tract containing ___ acres and many slaves including two negroes named Esther."

Dr. Harris gives a reference in a footnote on page 694 for this information to "Jones vs Tebbs, FDC 155", apparently an old Court Case.

I am trying to find this Court case to get the full information about this reference. If the case file still exists, I am hoping that other related information might be in the case file. The trouble is that the Library of Virginia, National Archives Records Center and University of Virginia Law Library cannot find the case of "Jones v. Tebbs" in their records.

Does anybody have a copy of this case? Does anybody know what Dr. Harris was referencing with he sued the reference "FDC #155"?
