William P. Quarles is my GGGG Grandfather. I have not seen the D. A. R. Newsletter, but the house presently standing at White Plains was built by Stephan D. Burton (William P. Quarles grandson) about 1860. The house built by William P. Quarles in 1810 was destroyed by fire before 1860.

William P. Quarles was ambushed, robbed and murdered where the Walton Road crosses the Dry Valley Road on April 2, 1814 while returning from a meeting of the White County Militia in which he had the rank of Major.

He is buried at White Plains. His grave marker lists him as Lieut. William Quarles, VA. LINE, REV. WAR, 1752-1814.
