Hi Tony,

I have just stumbled across this website in a bored moment but it looks quite interesting!

My father - Ronald Quarmby, was born on October 21st 1921 in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire and I seem to remember him saying that his father was called William.

I have been to my grandfather's grave in Huddersfield...its on a bleak hillside and once was long overgrown but now is tended and doesnt look too bad. My grandfather was a monumental mason and carved his own gravestone! He did a very good job, it has all the tools of his trade on it. I guess he paid for someone else to inscribe the date.

I will get some more info off Dad next time I see him, although he's not too interested in this sort of stuff.

Since my Dad was 42 when he had me, it would not be too hard to imagine his father being 40ish when he had him, which would make his date of birth somewhere around 1880.

Cheers,
Nick Quarmby
