Alexander's first wife was Bettie Bowie Hunter, widow of George Hunter. He married her in Scotland about 1767 and came with her and her two sons to America. She was abt. 16 years older than he was. Although he stated in his memoirs that his coachmaking business in Philadelphia was burned (hence his moving to Richmond), he actually was run out of town by his step-sons (and partners in his coachmaking business).
I am a descendant of Alexander through what we had been told was his first wife which was actually his second wife.
