Joseph Quarterman 1812 Georgia

I am looking for information on the family of Joseph Quarterman b.1812 married Martha (Patsy) Brockington. Joseph is my Great Grandfather, John Holmes Quarterman b1865 was my Grandfather, Albert Carroll Quarterman b1916 was my Father. I have heard that Joseph Quarterman stowed away on a ship and that he was brought to Camden County Georgia by Martha Brockington's Father? Does anyone know how Joseph got to Camden County?
