The information I have in my family history matches yours exactly. I don't have it with me at this time; however, if I remember correctly: The family was only in Scotland for a very short time before moving to Ireland (I think this is where people get confused on our heritage.) I believe it was about the time of the famine that at least some of the family members moved to the U.S. As I understand it, the name was changed from DuQuai to Qua after leaving France. It was changed to Quay while in Ireland because of ?confusion in the translation? (not sure that is what you would call it)
