Quebedeauxs of Grand Coteau
Posted by: Dr. Don Landry Date: December 06, 1999 at 11:23:34

I am a descendant of the Québédeauxs of Grand Coteau, Prairie Bas to be more specific. My paternal grandmother was Céléste Qébédeaux and my great aunts and uncles were also from that area. They were
Luke Québédeaux, Emma Québédeaux, Eva Québédeaux, and Emile Québédeaux, etc.

The earliest recorded Québédeaux was Joseph Quédéau dit L'Espagnol married to Marie-Anne Beau, in Colonial Illinois in 1759, their children came to Louisiana (Pointe Coupée in 1763 and later moved into the Attakapas area (Opelousas, Arnaudville, Grand Coteau area). Joseph's wife was from Paris, but it is unknown where he originated. His name was of Spanish origin, hence the nickname L'Espagnol.
There is a Québédeaux rootsweb mailing list at:
also Charlie "Red Québédeaux is also researching the surname Québédeaux . His e-mail address is:

Don Landry
