Jim,
I overwhelmed with the amount of information you have sent. Many thanks.
Unfortunately I know very little of the Quillinan's except that they originated in Carron.I am four generations removed from the Quillinan connection who as I mentioned died in 1874 two years after the birth of her youngest in Clonmel.
The fact that records in Tipperary are restricted I did not have the same amount of success with my research as I did with other branches of my family who were born in other dioceses.I called to the National Library here in Dublin about three weeks ago to see if the new regulations governing the freedom of information applied to parish records but they say that the new act does not cover these records.
I had written previously to the Bishop of Cashel and Emly seeking permission to read the National Library microfilm but this was refused. I was referred instead to THU.They have been unable the trace the records I wanted.
But I will not give up and I hope at some stage I will be able to make the vital breakthrough.
The last association which I identified with Carron was the Census of 1901 (I not check the 1911).All three remaining Quillinans did not have families (2 never married and one was a widow with no children listed).Presumably all others must have flown the nest and could very well have emigrated as there does not appear to be any of the family currently residing in the area.
My aunt(90 years of age) whose grandmother was Catherine Quillinan does not have any information on the family.
I have some Griffiths records of Tipperary, Solohead and Raheen Upper. If you not have these I can send them.
Thanks again
Liam
