Hi Kathy,Have you found the Stafford information in Smith County Tennessee?Of course, John Stafford was in Smith County by 1800 and was listed as one of 36 of their leading citizens. In the 1840 census in Smith County the Staffords listed include Adam, Caleb, John, Polly (2), Cain, Sarah, Steven and Thomas (2).
I am looking into this family for my husband. His gggg grandfather was Redmond (Redman) Quine (Quinn, Quiine, Gwin, and other various spellings) who was born circa 1798 in Virginia (according to the 1850 census) and was in Smith County, Tn in the 1837 tax list and the 1840 census. He then moved over to Sumner County by 1850.
Redmond could not be a direct descendant of Elizabeth (Betsy) (Quine) Stafford or Sarah (Sally) (Quine) Carman.Unless William was married before Frances Baxter in 1804, he would not be his son.Henry moved to Mississippi, so I don't think he is Henry's son - nor do I believe he is Jacob's son because he didn't marry Elinor (Nelly) Gunn until 1804 - so that just leaves Mordecai.I can't find any information about Mordecai except that he seemed to follow the path of his sisters and according to a deed he was in Smith County, Tn in 1806.
Redmond married Nelly, maiden name unknown.
Any thoughts or leads?
Thanks much,
Leanne
