The Vachon / Pomerleau Family Association has organized an exciting
and Once in a Lifetime opportunity for those of French ancestry, or those interested
in Culture, History and Art to visit sites of great Beauty, History and Cultural Interest.
We have a limited number of spaces available and are looking for people to join us.
This is of interest to anyone with French Ancestry.
The trip would leave Montreal or Quebec City on Friday Sept. 21,2001
and return Saturday October 6, 2001. The Price is Very Reasonable and includes
accommodation, , transportation and admissions , all breakfasts, most dinners, some lunches and special evenings such as a welcoming cocktail plus
some special evening events such as cruises and musical accompaniment .
The trip starts and ends in Paris and includes the sites listed below.

Day 1: Paris / Chartres / Blois
-Visit to Chartres Cathedral featuring 8,000 sculpted figures and the unique
Chartres Blue Stained Glass windows.
-On to Blois and a visit to an escarpment with a beautiful panoramic view from a
beautiful Chateau constructed on the site of a feudal fortress.
- A welcoming cocktail and dinner
Day 2: Blois / Chateau de la Loire / Fontevraud / Nantes
- Visit Chenonceaux and the beautiful Chateau des Dames for its beauty and elegance.
- Visit Azay-le-Rideau and visit a beautiful Chateau from the first Renaissance.
- On to Fontevraud for a visit to a Benedictine Abbey founded in 1099.
- On to Nantes site of Port of Nantes, St-Pierre Cathedral, Blue Beard’s prison
- To end the day a relaxing Dinner-Cruise on the Erdre river
Day 3: Nantes / Copachagniere / La Rochelle
- Visit Copachagniere birthplace of Paul Vachon who is ancestor of all Vachon/ Pomerleau in North America.
- Tour of village and town hall meeting.
- Reunion luncheon with other Vachon’s of France and friends.
- On to La Rochelle, a beautiful port and heart of many Departing to New France.
Day 4: La Rochelle
- Tour of La Rochelle with someone in period costume to explore sites from
the time of New France
- Visit streets paved the same as in new France in the 1600’s
- Visit the ancient fortified Port, very old wooden houses, large clock etc.
- Free evening to explore at leisure the beautiful city.
Day 5: La Rochelle/Cognac/ St-Emilion / La Rochelle
- Tour ancient Chateau d’Otard.
- St-Emilion site of the famous Cognac and Vineyards
- Visit to the Vachon Vineyards with a tour and wine tasting.
- Return to La Rochelle with another free evening.
Day 6: La Rochelle/ Marais/ Poitevan / Carnac/ Vannes
- Highlights include a visit to an ancient site with standing stones such as Stonehenge
- A ballad filled cruise on the tree lined canals known as the Green Venice
- Visit Cathedrals, ancient ramparts, gardens and the Tiny Train.
Day 7: Vannes/Rennes/Dinan/ St-Malo
- Museum of Fine Arts in Rennes/ Palais de Justice and ancient houses.
- Visit Dinan with its medieval castles and the Joy of Brittany (Bretagne)
Ancient town, Chateau of the Duchess Anne, Gothic Bridge and Basilica St-Sauveur
- St-Malo, Breathtaking Seaside Port of pirates and home of Jacques Cartier discoverer of New France
- Special Dinner with Cider in a traditional Creperie
Day 8: St-Malo/Mont St-Michel / St-Malo
- Tour St-Malo. The fortifications, the chateau, Cathedral St-Vincent and finally home of Jacques Cartier.
- Visit to the Spectacular Mont St-Michel named the Marvel of the Occident
and founded in the 8th century. Truly an unbelievable site. Check it out on the internet!
It was also where William the Conqueror stopped on his way to conquer England.
Day 9: St-Malo/ Bayeux / Arromanches/ Beny-Sur-Mer/ Caen
- Bayeux site of 1000 year old Cathedral.
- Visit to the Tapestry of Queen Mathilde also known as the Bayeux Tapestry
It is 70 meters long and depicts the story of William The Conqueror’s invasion of England.
- Visit some sites from WWII. Invasion beaches, Canadian war cemetery
- Caen liberated by Canadians in 1944.
- Tomb of William the Conqueror.
- Abbey of the Ardennes site of the Massacre of Canadian Soldiers by the SS.
Day 10: Caen/Lisieux/Deauville/ Honfleur/ Rouen
- War museum and memorial to Peace.
- Lisieux and Ste-Therese, Basilica and chapel of Carmel
- Deauville - Marina, casino etc.
- Honfleur with ancient seaside wooden buildings and where Champlain left for
- Rouen Museum and ancient sites, Cathedral Notre Dame, giant clock etc.
- Visit the site where Joan of Arc (Jeanne D’Arc ) was burned alive in 1431.
Day 11: Rouen/ Compiegne/ Reims
- Site of the Armistice which ended WWII
- Reims site of the Beautiful Cathedral where all the Kings of France were crowned.
- St-Remi -site of irreplaceable stained glass and the body of Emperor Clovis
-Museum of Fine Arts, Ancient Roman site, Abbey St-Denis
Day 12: Reims/ Epernay/ Paris
- Tour of the Champagne region
-Visit vineyards, wine making tour and
visit to Moet & Chandon with a Champagne Tasting
-Arrive in Paris, The City of Lights
Day 13: Paris/ Versailles/ Paris
-Guided Tour of Paris
-Eiffel Tower, Champs Elysees, Arc de Triumph, Montmartre, Place du Tertre place of Artists’
Notre Dame, Les Invalides, The Louvre etc.
-Palace of Versailles home of Louis 14th- The Sun King.
-Royal Gardens, Royal Opera
Day 14: Paris
-Free Day for Touring, Shopping or leisure
-To start the evening a cruise with Ballad on the river to admire Paris
-Farewell dinner in a Guinguette(Musical open air Café) beside the Marne river with Orchestra and Dancing featuring the authentic atmosphere of a Musical Ball.
Day 15: Return Home
