The traditional old German naming pattern that continued for many years here is US was to give the child being baptised the names of each of their sponsors and sometimes a name the parents chose in addition. My ancestors sometimes had 4 christian names. i.e. ANNA SOPHIA CHRISTINA MARIA ________. When you look at the sponsor column in the records you will see those names. This column is important as it usually was relatives or very close friends. This leads to more of your line. The repetitive naming of Johann Karl, Johann Joachim, Johann Peter etc. is more apt to be found in the Catholic records, so I have found. Naming each after a favorite Saint.

I am born RABE descendant of Johann "Henry" Rabe of Henry Co., Ohio He was b. in Oldendorf bei Hermannsberg, Hannover. and his wife Anna Jungmann.
