Let me try and help you out with that Rabon/Barfield conection. I don't have my records in front of me, but I know I can do this one from memory. Some dates I am not certain of. The ones I don't know for sure, I will put a question mark after.

One of the reason for the confusion is, Two brothers and an Uncle married two sisters. Say What! Now, just take it easy. Let me walk you through. It will clear up. If not, read this posting again. And again.

The first Rabon brother, John Edward Rabon married Lottie Barfield. They were from the Lugoff Area and in their early years farmed north of Camden in Kershaw County. Their land was located across from what is today Forestlawn Cemetery. They had eight children.
1. John Tillman Rabon (B) 1898
2. Henry Arthur Rabon (B) 1899
3. Joe (NMN) Rabon (B) 1900
4. Nannie Rabon (B) 1902(married John Spears)
5. Robert James Rabon (B) 1904
6. Talley A. Rabon (B) 1906
7. Troy Lee Rabon (B) 1909
8. Bessie Elizabeth Rabon (B) 1914? (married Robert Burrows)
In the late teens or early twenties, they moved to the Eau Claire area of Columbia. They lived out their lives here and when they died were buried at DeKalb Baptist Church.

The second Rabon brother, George Melton Rabon, married Lottie's sister Alice Barfield. Their home was in the Lugoff area. They had four children.
1. Leslie Rabon (B) 1902 ?
2. Ruby Rabon (B) 1904 ?
3. Melton George Rabon (B) 1906 ?
4. Bessie Rabon (B) 1908 ? (Died very young)

Tragedy strikes this family around the year 1909. George is killed when the Wateree River Bridge collapes while he is crossing. The family story is that their was three people on the bridge when it collapsed. A Doctor Savage, who was inspecting it. George Rabon and a little Black boy. Doctor Savage held on to some timbers in the water and was eventually rescued. The little black boy's body was later found down stream, tangled up in some branches. George's body was never found. His Widow placed a stone marker to his memory in the Springvale Baptist Cemetery.

Now comes chapter three of this story.
Alice, who is a now a widow with three small children, turns around and marries George's Uncle. Andrew Rabon. He himself had just recently become a widower. Not sure of the exact number but I think he had at least ten kids from his first marriage. With Alice, he has three more.
They were: 1. Henry Rabon (B) 1910 ?
2. Annie Belle Rabon (B) 1912 ? (married a Preeb)
3. Kate Rabon (B)1916 ? (married a Bell)
Kate was the last surviving memer of this "extended" family. She died a cople of year ago and is Buried at Springvale Baptist Church.
Now, just when you think you had the Rabon/Barfield connection figured out, I'm going to throw another curveball out to you in case you run across these names in your research. Old Andrew Rabon had a daughter from his first marriage named Minnie Rabon. Guess who she married? Yep. You got it. A Barfield. Burl Barfield. A brother to Alice and Lottie.
Let me know if this helps out.
Sincerely,

Another Joe Rabon
