These are the Rabons that I am looking for. They were in Terrell County, Georgia in the 1860 census.Joel was the father of Washington Rabon. Washington was married to Martha Huff. They had 2 children, Lydia Alice and Timothy B. Washington goes to the civil war and dies of Typhoid fever two months after he enlists. This is where it becomes a little sticky.Martha never remarries according to a Confederate widow's pension she receives in the l890s.
Martha has at least three more children.
In the 1850 census there is a Richard Rabon living in Macon County with sons, Bennett and Charles. In the 1860 census Bennett is living in Terrell county married to Frances Huff, a sister to Martha. Bennett goes to the civil war with Washington and Jasper Rabon. Jasper marries a Nancy Huff in Terrell County but I never been able to find him after the civil war.In 1870 in Terrell county, Bennett is living next door to Martha. Living with him is Charles.
Billy's ( my husband) grandfather, Homer Rabon, was born in 1873. His mother was Martha Huff and his father was Charles Rabon. We assume because of where they all lived that this is the Charles.Charles was about 20 years younger that Martha. Homer also had a sister named Callie. We assume that she was also the child of Charles.Charles later marries a Martha Wills, who also appears to be a lot older than he was. They have a son names Deek ( or Richard as he was called when he married ) who marries Nora Harris. This makes Deek and Homer half brothers. I wonder if Deek is a misspelling of Dick.
In the 1830 census of Twiggs county there is listedJoel,
Charles and Ichabod Rabon. As best as can be determined it seems that Charles is the older and Joel and Ichabod are younger.I assume that Charles is the father. Richard is lister in 1840 in Marion county. There is a Charles Rabon that married Dora Williford in Clarke county in 1799. I think that this is the older Charles. There is also a Williford Rabon that was in Terrell County with a daughter named Frances. She married Franklin Huff who was a brother to Martha.
Deek and NOra are buried in Ben Hill county along with their son, B.L. and several of the granadchildren. Martha( the one that is married to Charles) dies in 1910 in Terrell County and Charles marries again.I have been unable to find him after that. I do not know where he is buried.
Ichabod married a Lucinda Lain.Lucinda later marries Jasper Wills, who was a brother , I assume, to the Martha that married Charles. I do not know what happened to Ichabod but I assume that he died.I later find an Ichabod up in Schley County but this must be a son.
I hope that this has not confused you too much.I would love to swap information with you and would appreciate any information that you are willing to share with me.
Where do you live?We live in Upson county, Thomaston, Georgia.
Caroline Rabon
