Thanks, Rob. I know you've done considerable work on the U.S. occurrences of these variations of the Rathbone surname. To date, I have only seen 2 references to Rabone's in 17th century U.S.--George (1639), Richd (1679). I don't know of their roots, descendants, or any other references to them, so it's difficult to tell if this was the standard spelling of their surname. Would it be correct to say that Rabone, typically derived from Rawbone, which typically derived from Rathbone?
"Richd Rabone" appears on a list of 1679 tithables in Henrico County (Virginia, I presume). Here's a website with the transcribed tithables list:

Do you know of any other early U.S. occurrences of the Rabone surname, or if there are any descendants of these two, George & Richd. It seems that the most prevalent variation of the Rathbone surname occurred as individuals moved south in the U.S. and we began to see Rabon, Rayburn, Rayborn, etc.
