I have a male, John Matason Rabun, brother to my great-grandfather, Hodge Rabun, Son of Thomas Rabun, Sr. and Mary Stroud. John was born November 10, 1825. He died abt. 1887 in Van Zandt County, Texas. This is the only male that I have that was born in the date range you specified. I know that Thomas Sr. had two sons and a son-in-law that were in the Civil War. One son was captured and died at Rock Island, Il., I'm unsure of the date.
Searching the lineage on this bunch is a bit confusing because of all the different spellings. When my bunch came over on the boat from the old country, the spelling was RABUN, but I've found the spelling, particularly in some of the census indexes, to be Raborn, Rayburn, Raburn, you get the drift. Usually when you go to the microfilm, though, the census taker will have spelled the name correctly. In some cases, where I've suspected they may have lived somewhere, I've gone to the film and scanned the whole county. It's a little time consuming but when you get lucky, it can be rewarding.
