Hi Daniel
I also am a Race in Canada...I grew up in Brockville Ontario...My Grandfather was Wallace Andrew who married Edna Myrtle Durant..my Father was Charles Wallace who married Hilda Doris Deeley after the 2nd War..she is from England..Dad had 3 sisters..Phylus, Laura and Alice..they originated from France with a last name of LaCourse and settled in Lyn (our ancestors) changed the name to Race..I am not sure of the spelling of LaCourse..the name Race comes from LaCourse meaning of a race track course.....
My ancestors when they settled in Lyn Ont. couldn't get jobs because they were French..so they canged the name to the English version so they could get jobs.at least that's what I was told..Let me know if this is any help..I have a list of Race names from the Lyn cemetary...I am in the process of moving and they are packed away right now...once we are settled I can e-mail them..Hope this is of some help..I am interested in tracing the Family name also..maybe we can help each other
