Starting Sept. 5, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum
message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles
will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will
no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.
I am very glad to see the number of responses that this subject has brought about. I have also received a number of persoal messages from other Race descendants who have also been told that they, too, had Native-American connections. First, I want to apologize for my tardiness in responding. My wife and I are still trying to recover from a very difficult move. We are still trying to pick up the pieces, so it has been very difficult for me to keep up with my posts. But I feel that it is really important for us Race descendants to become aware that this Native-American "rumor" seems to run rampant among all of us. I really feel that there is a missing link somewhere, which might someday benefit us all. The fact that so many of you have chosen to discuss this is an indication that there is hope that working together as Races, we we might someday be able to solve this mystery. My Race group, known as the Belfast (NY) Races, has been active for a number of years now, as has Donna Race Kneip (representing the Race/Rees family.) Its a pleasure to see that Jennifer Race Sanders has joined our investigastion, as her Mose Race family is also a widely respected Race group. And the participation of other Race genealogists is just more fuel on the fire for us. If we can work together, maybe we can find an answer to this riddle which seems to haunt our common pasts.
Perhaps it would help if we can all share any further information as to what particular tribes our ancestor were rumored to be connected to. For exmple, one Race descendant recently told me that they had Cherokee connections. I myself, was told that we had Iroquois connections. In a private email, another descendant also said that they had Iroquois connections.
Race genealogy has become stagnant in recent months, largely due to mutual frustrations. Working together, we can change that. I sincerely appreciate the active participation of all of you. One way or the other, we are all connected somehow. Please feel free to contact me at this post, or my email address, or just drop me a line and I am even willing to call you long distance, wherever you are. Let's keep working together guys. One last note, there is a Craig ? who appears to represent the mysterious "New Jersey Races." If anyone knows how to get him involved in this forum, please invite him. --- Bill
