Hi, I am trying to locate the parent of William Clements. His last name on several different documents was spelled, Clements, Clemmons, Clemonts, Clemens.

According to his Obituary, and the Census for 1860, 1870, and 1880, he was born either in the year 1828 or 1830 or 1832 or 1827, but one thing they all had clear was that William was born in Kentucky.

According to the 1880 Census for "William" his parents were both born in Kentucky also.

Now William married Julia Ann Angell on 20 Mar 1853 in Champaign County, IL

Here is the documentation on that:

1. Illinois Statewide Marriage Index 1763-1900

Groom: Clemonts, William
Bride: Angell, Julia Ann
County: Champaign
Date: 03/20/1853
Lic.: 001/0151

2. Copy of the Orginal Marriage Certificate:

William Clements } Champaign Co., IL
to March 20th 1853
Julia Ann Angell }

Walter Rhoades a Justice of the Peace hereby certify
that on this day I joined in marriage Mr. William Clements with Miss Julia Ann Angell agreeably to the authority given in the above license.

Walter Rhodes J.P.

Julia Ann Angell was born in 05 Apr 1836 Pendleton County, KY. Her Father Elias Angell was born in VA, and her mother Polly Ann Stephens was born in Kentucky. After Julia's marriage to William Clemonts they lived by her mother and Henry Crail.

By 1860, William Clemmons, and Julia had moved to Schuyler County, IL. Besides there own children, they had a young man by the name of Robert Race age 18, living in their home.

These are the Children of William and Julia Ann Clements:
1. Henry W. Clements
Born: 25 Dec 1853
Place: Vermillion Co, IL.

2. William Harvey Clements
Born: 23 Dec 1855
Place: Vermillion, Co. IL.

3. Cordilia Florence Clements
Born: Jun 1858
Place: IL

4. John James Clements
Born: 11 Dec 1861
Place: Schuyler Co, IL

5. George Riley Clements
Born: 20 Apr 1866
Place: Schuyler Co., IL

William Clements Died on February 18, 1898 Buenvista Township, Rushville, Schuyler County, IL. Buried In Marlow Cemetery.
Julia Ann Angell Clements Died on April 16, 1908 in Buenavista Township, Rushville, Schuyler County, IL. Buried in Marlow Cemetary.

Anyway, I am up a brink wall when it comes to the parents of William Clements. I have often thought it might be Bejamin Clements, who married Cordelia Race. I found a Cordelia who was 44 years old in the Grant County, KY 1850 Census along with a family group of RACE that had a son name Robert. Could this be the Robert in my William and Julia's Home 1860 Schuyler County, IL. Here is that Census for Grant County, KY.

32/778/779 Clemons, Cordelia Age: 44 F Born: VA
33/778/779 Clemons, Cynthiana Age: 15 F Born: IL
34/778/779 Clemons, Jonathan Age: 13 M Born: IL
35/778/779 Clemons, Ebenezer Age: 12 M Born: KY
36/778/779 Clemons, Elizabeth M. Age: 08 M Born: KY

32/795/796 Race, Hyman Age: 37 M Born: Ohio
33/795/796 Race, Nancy Age: 24 M Born: KY
34/795/796 Race, James W. Age: 08 M Born: KY
35/795/796 Race, Robert W. Age: 04 M Born: KY
36/795/796 Race, Dulcena Age: 02 F Born: KY

This Robert is 4 years younger than the Robert in William and Julia Clements in the 1860 Census for Schuyler Co., IL. So, it may not be a good match. I am just running out of straws. I've thought of DNA testing, but I have no male relatives from my family, and I do not no of any close relatives that would be willing to help. So, I am stuck with researching it out myself. So, if anyone has any clues to the Parents of William Clements, Please contact me at

Thanks so much for your help.

Great Great Granddaughter of William and Julia Ann Clements of Buena Vista, Schuyler County, IL.
