In case this is of interest to anyone, there is a nice portrait of Mr. T. H. Race posted on

This portrait of Mr. T. H. Race appears on the illustration page facing page 296 in The Canadian Horticulturist, vol.XV, no.10, 1892. There is a biographical sketch of him on page 296 of that volume. Mr. Race was born in 1846 in northern England. He came to Canada as a boy with his parents. His parents purchased a farm in the area of Port Hope. He became very involved in horticulture and propagating fruit trees. He also entered into the newspaper business and became editor of the Mitchell Recorder.
