Hello -- My g.g. grandfather, Vitel LaCourse, (aka Vincent Rice), was born in Brockville, Ontario in 1834. In 1856 in Brockville he married Honora Slattery Boyle; she was a widow with two children. About 1860 they moved to Geneva, New York and he changed his name to "Vincent Rice." It never occurred to me that French Canadians would be discriminated against, and it would be hard to find work. Perhaps that is what motivated him as well. I just recently found out his French name from the record of their marriage at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Brockville. What do you know about your LaCourse ancestors in Canada? I'd love to hear from you! John Proesch jproesch@comcast.net 3-11-12
