Reuben M. Rachels (abt. 1828 - about 1873) was the son of Zadock Rachels (1804-1875) and his wife Appia May Rachels ((1802-1879).
I don't have the name of Reuben's wife - but he was known to have three children, William F. (1855-1932), Martha Ann, and James W.
Sounds to me like J.T. married a sister I don't have in my data, Reuben died and J.T. wound up her sister and brother's guardians. Then the brother died.
OR he married Martha Ann AND was her guardian. Then her brother died.
It was very normal for a guardian to be appointed to children, even if their mother was still living. Harumph.
I'm descended from Reuben's next youngest brother, George W., who didn't come back from the Civil War.
Hope this helps - like I said, I'm not sure, but here's some ideas for you.
