There has been a strong connection between the NELMS and RADBONE families from Ickford, Buckinghamshire, England over a number of generations.

On 07 Jan 1815 at Ickford, Thomas Nelms (1791) of Shabbington, Oxfordshire married Susan Radbone (1794) of Ickford.

On 16 Oct 1823 at Ickford, James Nelms (1799) married Elizabeth Radbone (1804). Their children were Henry (1837), Susan (1840), James (1843), Ann (1849) and Charles (1850).

Three of the children of James (1799), who was a son of Cook NELMS (1766) and Mary NORTH, immigrated to USA. Henry (1837) and Ann (1849) travelled to Ohio in Apr 1854 and James (1843) in May 1869. James and Henry lived for a while with Edward RADBONE in Wood and Washington Counties. They appeared in the 1870 census, living in Oregon Twp, Lucas Co, Ohio. Henry and James were living next door to Ann, who was staying with Thomas TOMPKIN and wife. TOMPKIN was also from Ickford. Henry was in an accident and died in 1876. He is buried in Forest Cemetery, Toledo, Ohio (next to Edward RADBONE (1801-1876) and his wife Rebekah NELMS (1802-1879) who was a sister of James Snr). James was married to Mary Jane THACHER in 1875. He built a homestead on Bayshore Rd along Maumee Bay in Oregon Twp. James applied for American citizenship and took his oath of allegiance on 20 Sep 1879. Henry and James both worked as farm labourers and family story has it that Ann did not like the US and returned to England about 1880.

James died in 1910 and Mary died in 1927. Their children were James III (1876-1902), Nellie Mary (1878-1923), William Henry (1880-1969) and Charles (1884-1982).

On 03 Mar 1825 at Ickford, Rebekah Nelms (1802) married Edward Radbone (1801) of Ickford. Both are buried in the Forest Cemetery, Toledo, Ohio. Their children were Susan (1825), Letitcia (1827), Mary (1829), Edward (1831), Ann (1832), James (1835), William (1837), Elizabeth (1839), Emily (1844), Sophia (1841), Jane (1844), Sarah (1846), Mary (1847) and James George (1849) - all born at Ickford.

Edward and Elizabeth were children of William Radbone (1771) and Elizabeth Field (1770) who were married at Ickford on 07 Oct 1793.
Thomas, James and Rebekah were children of Cook Nelms (1766) and Mary North (1759) who were married at Shabbington on 26 April 1791.

At the 1851 census, Elizabeth Nelms, 18, nurse, of Ickford and Ann Radbone, 18, general servant, of Ickford were working together as servants of the HANDS family. Henry Hands of 19 High Street, Oxford was a jeweller and watchmaker.

At the 1841 census, Thomas Radbone, 25, and George Nelms, 20, were living next door to William and Elizabeth Radbone in Ickford.
