Hello all the Ratke & Radtke Folks.

I was searching for someone from Chicago Ill. area?
My mother was maiden name ďClara RatkeĒ born 8/06/1921 and her father (my grandfather) was Chester Ratke.

My Grandpa Chester was wreckmaster for B&O railroad and he died 2/02/1952. He died before I was born.
I think Chester was born 7/19/1898 in Chicago, Cook County Ill.
I think Chesterís father was Adam Ratke from Poland who was born around 1870.

I think Grandpa Chesters wifeís name was Veronica Faron born in Chicago, Cook County, Ill. In 1998? And I think she died 4/11/1949.

Grandpa Chester had 2 brothers (Steve & Bill or William, Bill's orig name was Valantine) and 1 sister named Kinga. Steve died at young age. Bill married a woman I think known as Mary/Helen and I think that Bill & Mary had a daughter named Helen who married a man with last name of Gabachestki.

Chesterís 4 children were 2 girls Clara (my Mom) also (Sally my aunt who is passed away) and 2 boys Benjamin and the mentally disabled son Chester.

Benjamin was married and had 2 sons Paul & Martin.

I donít even know if I have the last name correct, as I was able to find a death certificate for Kinga, but the last name is spelled Radtke. I donít understand that, because my Mom wrote letters to here, and had her name written as Kinga Ratke.

I am having difficulties finding out where Grandpa Chester was buried.

He has a surviving son also named Chester. The son was born mentally disabled. He is now on life support, and the hospital called my oldest brother to ask him what the familyís wishes are concerning life support. None of my family out west here have lived in Chicago since early 1950ís. So this was all a HUGE shock to us.

My last name is not Ratke but Morris.

I think ( I canít remember, Olí timers :-) my Mom Clara told me that Grandpa Ratke bought 3 different cemetery plots, one for his wife, one for him and one for their son Chester. My Mom Clara died in 1978, and the last time I was in Chicago was when I was very young.

I think they were all Catholic, but donít know for sure.

The mentally disabled son Chester has been in a nursing home for last 20 years, and the nursing home doesnít have any information either. He has phenomena and is on breathing machine. I think that he had been visited at the nursing home occasionally by one of his cousinís with first name of Silvia or Sylvia and last name of Arendt or possibly Dosb or Dost?

I thought for sure that there was someone in Chicago that was looking out for the son Chester.

I am trying to find a death certificate for Chester Ratke, because I think that the certificate tells where he was buried. If I knew which cemetery it was, I could then call them to see if my Mom was right, about another plot there for the son Chester, so he could be buried with next to his Mom and Dad, if in fact it comes to that.

I am now disabled and I canít get around like I used to anymore.

I donít know where to turn to for more information or help.
I was hoping that one of the Ratke or Radtkeís could help save the day here folks.

My Mom once told me, that if I ever went back to Chicago, that there were so many Ratke relatives there, that I could spend a different night at each ones home, and it would take several months to do that :-)

If you know any of the Ratke or Radke (spell?) folks in Chicago PLEASE contact me.

You can email me at:

Thank you
Chad Morris
